Develop Your Own Practice

An example of funding

The Develop your Creative Practice fund gives individual practitioners/creatives the opportunity to apply for £2000 to £12,000 in order to develop their creative practice and progress them onto the next stage of their work. Those applying for this funding could be looking to take part in a period of research, training, net working or taking time to create new work. My intention was to create a workshop combining performance and play, inviting people from different fields, to serve as a template for this grant to further develop a new branch of my practice.

Self-Evaluation

I chose to build my SWOT analysis around my Watch Around show; as it is a piece I have made and performed and I am also currently in the process of building upon with the intention of touring it.

Strenghts

What do you do better than anyone else?

  • I create opportunities where I can interact with the audience

  • I use my physical abilities to develop my movements and those of the audience

  • I use my experience as a director to guide the audience into participating in my performance

What makes you unique?

  • I focus on my emotional projection

  • My ability to improvise allows me to respond to every concern

  • I combine games and drama to make it more enjoyable for the audience

What unique or lowest-cost resources can you draw uponn that others can't?

  • Since the performance is different from traditional theater and does not require much space, it can be rehearsed and performed anywhere.

  • I provide all the props required for the performance myself, so the budget is not very high.

  • I can set up the entire show myself

What do people in your market see as your strengths?

  • My acting skills

  • My body movements

  • My ability to project emotions

  • My ability to create space

Weaknesses

What could you improve?

  • Give the audience different role settings

  • Better marketing and promotion

  • Make the drama longer and richer in content

What should you avoid?

  • Too much interaction makes the audience timid

  • I got injured during the performance because I was too focused on it.

What are things that users might see as weakness?

  • Audiences may not be able to find the theme when their expectations are violated

  • Too preconceived and think that the audience will understand my point of view.

  • I didn’t chat with the audience after the performance. I don’t know if there are any undiscovered problems.

Opportunities

Do people have a need?

  • People today seek happiness that is faster and easier to obtain. By integrating games and performances, the audience can become more involved.

  • People watch performances because they want to enjoy the story, and in my performances you don’t just enjoy the story, you can become the story itself and have the opportunity to create some critical thinking.

Do people prefer something else?

  • Nowadays, people are seeking happiness and satisfaction online, so I have to integrate these different things with my performance and bring them into my performance in the way they are accustomed to.

Are there any changes in technology?

  • As everyone is now seeking information on the Internet, it is relatively easy to promote and increase visibility, but be aware that if you are not distinctive, you will be filtered out by a large amount of information.

Threats

What challenges do you face?

  • Attract a diverse audience

  • sufficient funds

  • More story lines to attract viewers to watch again

What are your competitors doing?

  • With team support, bigger stories can be developed

  • Also know how to use Internet marketing

Is changing technology making things difficult?

  • There are more technologies that can create different spaces. In addition, if more projection screens or videos are added, more different stories may be shown.
